First cake ever, and I wanted to share

Hi gys

I’m thrilled to share this cake with you all! Growing up, I baked countless cookies, but I’ve never attempted making a cake—until now.

My fiancé, Owyn, tragically passed away last year in an accident. He was an extraordinary chef and always encouraged me to explore the kitchen more. Since then, the kitchen has felt like a bittersweet place—it’s where we created some of our best memories. Taking this step is a significant milestone for me in more ways than one.

To honor Owyn on his birthday, I’ve decided to start baking cakes each year. It feels like a heartfelt way to remember him and reconnect with something he was so passionate about.

We were both huge Harry Potter fans and would read the books aloud to each other every night before bed. So, recreating Hagrid’s cake felt like the perfect starting point.

This is a chocolate orange cake with butterscotch icing. It’s far from perfect, and I still have so much to learn, but I’m proud of this first attempt and excited about this new hobby.

Thank you for letting me share this emotional journey. I hope to improve and share more advanced cakes in the future.//.n

He would have loved it; it’s amazing!

So sorry for your loss, but this is a lovely way to honor him. You did a great job; I knew exactly what you were going for.

It looks wonderful and sounds delicious. Much love to you.

What a lovely tribute!!!

It’s great that you overcame your hesitation to get back in the kitchen. This is really impressive, and I’m sure he’s happy you’re honoring him wherever he may be. <3

Such a lovely tribute.

Hagrid knew how to spell in the books :frowning:

I can’t get any posts up on this sub lol.

Now you somehow gotta give it to him under the stairs.
