I love carrot cake but I would cry.
This was a nope for me unfortunately. But that’s a testament to how convincing of a job you did! 
When I was a kid my dad would always say he was eating roaches when he had dates. I was too little to not believe him. He thought it was hilarious, I am still scarred from it. Lol.
I avoided them like the plague through my teens. It wasn’t until my 20’s that I attempted eating them again, but shuddered. In my 30’s I was able to sort of enjoy dates. Now in my 40’s I still have this core memory every time I see or have dates. My throat still tightens a bit when I eat them whole.

My favorite way to use up dates is to slice them, fill them with goat cheese, wrap them in turkey bacon, and bake until crispy. So easy and tastes decadent.
