Baker’s Joy! It took me a long time to stop trying different hacks and just buy the damn thing because I was a broke grad student and buying a cooking spray just for baking felt…silly. But it was totally worth it!
A couple of months back this happened to someone’s cake or cupcakes in this subreddit, a half day before they were due to serve dessert at a dinner party or something. They ended up making a beautiful trifle out of it. It looked great.
Unless your name is Rachel and you’re having Joey over for dinner, skip the ground beef, mashed potatoes, and onions!
I used to be a pro at bundt cakes, but in the last ~2 years, I just cannot get them to release properly from the pan, no matter what recipe I use or what I use to grease the pan. I think bundts are cursed!
Break out the Trifle Bowl!
Been there. I bet it still tasted nice! I now use a nonstick spray that also has flour in it.
Ooh, I recently had a targeted Instagram post about this: Delish on Instagram: "You lined, greased, and took all precautionary measures to make sure your cake comes out of your pan easily and it’s STILL stuck. @makinze says fear not!! 🍰 There’s still hope for your dessert #cake #stuck #baking #hack #bundt #summerrecipes"
They said to dip it in a bowl of hot water or wrap a hot, damp towel around it to reheat the sugars, and then run a spatula along the sides. I thought it was a helpful video since it’s about what to do when you already have a cake that’s stuck.
You need to smear it with butter and dust it with flour. HEAVILY!
And sadly… it’s underbaked.
Are you using my technique?
I grease & flour my bundt pans and they (mostly) pop right out. But it still looks tasty!
I’d say you bunted it into a single serving.
Looks like the beginnings of a tasty trifle if you ask me!
Toughest part is lifting the cake out of the pan without it sticking. Try using a blowtorch and heating the outside of the pan.
Try the baker’s friend spray; it has never failed me.
Liberally grease every crevice on that pan, then dust with flour for white cake, cocoa for chocolate.
I call those an ‘oops, gotta eat the evidence’ of my fuck-up.
I know it’s rubble now, but damn it looks moist! I’d just eat it like that.
When you think you’ve greased your Bundt enough, double grease it again and really love those nooks and crannies. Then a generous dusting of flour/cocoa. My condolences on your ice cream topping.
I’m sick right now, and I really crave a piece of this delicious-looking mess.
When I would get a mess like this, my dad always said, ‘It all goes down the same way no matter how it looks!’ He’s not wrong!
I have never seen this happen before; new fear unlocked!
