Looking for an easy vanilla birthday cake recipe?

Hey guys, I need your help. My girlfriend’s birthday is coming up, and I want to bake her a cake, but I’m a total beginner at baking. I wanted to practice today, but I can’t find any simple recipes that seem decent. Could someone share an easy vanilla birthday cake recipe and maybe some tips? I’d really appreciate it.

I don’t have a specific recipe in mind, but here are some tips for you as a beginner baker:

  • Make sure to prepare your baking tins before you begin, so you’re not scrambling later. Use baking paper, cupcake liners, or a light coating of oil spray to grease your tins.
  • Don’t forget to preheat your oven before you start baking.
  • Whenever possible, weigh your ingredients for accuracy—baking is precise!
  • Ensure your ingredients like butter and eggs are at room temperature for best results.
  • Be cautious not to over-mix the batter; stop as soon as the dry ingredients are just incorporated.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before you start icing or decorating to prevent any melting mishaps.
  • If you follow these steps closely, you should be able to bake a great cake! I’m sure your girlfriend will love whatever you create for her. Oh, and happy birthday to her.

Try the following recipe and thank me later:
Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240 ml) of milk
  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) of vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (400 g) of sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups (312 g) of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 g) of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 g) of baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 g) of salt
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) of unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the milk and vanilla extract.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and eggs until light and fluffy.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
  6. Add the softened butter and mix until just combined.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
