Too much salt on cookies?

Hello! I just finished making roughly five dozen handmade cookies. I use a recipe that asks for 1 1/2 tsp salt and 2 sticks unsalted butter. By mistake, I added salted butter to the recipe instead of just the standard salt.

I love salty stuff, therefore is it inappropriate to give this as a gift? I’m scared that these may be too much for other people because I was making them to bring to a birthday celebration. Should I give up and start over? I would be very grateful for any guidance.

Yes, it is true that oversalting cookies can make them taste terrible. Although too much salt might mask the sweetness and produce an off-putting taste, it does improve flavor.

No you shouldn’t give up and start afresh, you can crumble them up and then mix into into some ice cream. Alternatively, you can try drizzling some caramel on them and just call them “salted caramel cookies”. Just ensure you let everyone know that they are salted caramel

Please don’t give up, you can crumble them and use them as a base for cheesecakes or lemon bars by adding a little sugar.
