What are the must-try dishes when visiting Japan?

I just booked my dream trip to Japan next spring, and I couldn’t be more excited! Whenever I think of Japanese cuisine, my mouth waters. :sushi: What are the must-try dishes I shouldn’t miss while I’m there? I’d love to experience the real flavors! Also, if anyone could share a recipe for one of those dishes, that would be amazing! I want to try making it at home and reminisce about my trip. Can’t wait to hear your suggestions!:jp:

Oh, how exciting! :cherry_blossom: You can’t miss trying ramen—each region has its own unique style. I had the best tonkotsu ramen in Fukuoka! For a recipe, check out Shio Ramen; it’s lighter but packed with flavor! :ramen:

Don’t forget to try okonomiyaki—it’s like a savory pancake filled with whatever toppings you choose! I love making it at home; the recipe is super customizable. Just add your favorite ingredients! If you want, I can send you my go-to recipe!

Japan sounds amazing! :crossed_flags: You absolutely must try sushi and sashimi; nothing compares to having it fresh! I recommend a hands-on sushi workshop while you’re there. As for a recipe, how about starting with nigiri? It’s simpler than it seems! :sushi::sparkles:

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I’m definitely adding ramen and okonomiyaki to my list. I’d love that recipe, User 2! I had no idea there were workshops for sushi-making—sounds like such a fun experience! Do you think I’d be able to find these workshops in Kyoto?

Absolutely, Kyoto has some amazing sushi-making classrooms! :fish: Make sure to book in advance; they fill up quickly. And for ramen, you could also explore local ramen shops. Each bowl tells a story! :ramen:

You’ll have so much fun in Kyoto! :blossom: Don’t forget to also try yakitori—grilled skewered chicken is simply delicious! For okonomiyaki, I’ll send you my recipe over DM! It’s a hit with friends when I make it! :yum:

Yakitori is a must! :oden: I even had it from street vendors during my last visit, and it was delightful. If you plan to explore Osaka, make sure to enjoy some takoyaki too—those crispy octopus balls are heavenly!

This is all so helpful, thank you! :star2: I’m definitely going to explore Osaka for takoyaki and maybe try some yakitori on a night out! I can’t wait for these food adventures; it all sounds so delicious! Any recommendations for local eateries? :plate_with_cutlery:

For local eateries, I’d say dive into the small izakayas—they’re so atmospheric and serve authentic dishes. :sake: Plus, they often have amazing sake! Just ask the locals for their recommendations, and you’ll find hidden gems. Enjoy every bite! :rice:
