If I don’t have basil, what other herbs can enhance my pasta dish?

I was trying to impress my partner with a homemade spaghetti dinner, but when I went to grab my fresh basil, it was nowhere to be found! :scream: I didn’t want to let my plans down, but I also didn’t want bland pasta. So, I started brainstorming alternatives. What other herbs can add that special twist to my dish? I have some oregano, thyme, and parsley on hand. Have any of you found great substitutes that can elevate a simple pasta dish? I’d love your suggestions! Thanks a bunch! :spaghetti::sparkles:

Oh no, missing basil is a bummer! But oregano is a great choice; it has a lovely flavor that pairs well with tomato sauce. You could also consider adding a bit of thyme for an earthier note. Good luck!:herb:

I totally get your panic! I’ve used parsley as a fresh topping, and it can really brighten up the dish. You could even combine it with the oregano for a nice, balanced flavor! :spaghetti::heart:

If you’re feeling adventurous, try adding a bit of crushed red pepper along with your herbs! It’ll give your pasta a nice kick. Oregano and thyme together could be a winner! :hot_pepper::sparkles:

I love using thyme in my pasta! It adds such a nice depth of flavor. You could also infuse some olive oil with garlic and drizzle that on the pasta for extra flavor! :plate_with_cutlery::sparkling_heart:

You could toss in some lemon zest with the oregano and thyme! It adds a refreshing twist and livens up the flavors immensely. :lemon::sparkles:

Definitely try mixing parsley and oregano! It makes a lovely herby blend that can elevate your dish. You can’t go wrong with some grated Parmesan on top as well! :cheese::yum:
