Every year since my daughter started talking, she’s designed her own birthday cake, and I do my best to bring her vision to life. It’s the only time all year I attempt cake decorating, but I love the tradition! This is the cake she requested for her 12th birthday.

I love this even more now that you told me that. I wrongly assumed you were the Mom. My husband and I do a pretty good job of not falling into typical gender roles, he does all the baking, I oversee and handle home construction projects, yet I still made that assumption.
It’s hard to unlearn the gender roles society has taught us. You’re both killing it as a Mom and Dad team and giving your daughter so much more than just a beautiful cake. I hope it was a wonderful celebration.

Yep, only once a year, 11 cakes in total , she comes up with what she wants in her head and I just try to translate it for her

I love it, she starts coming up with the idea at the start of Jan and then we work out how I’m going to translate it onto the cake, we have tried everything from Disney castles in her princess phase to formula one, it’s something I hope we continue for as long as we can
