These are GORGEOUS. The improvement in just a year and a half is astounding! Can’t wait to see what you create next year.
Absolutely stunning. No words.
That Halloween cake is killer. I love baking but lack decorating skills.
How many times a week/month do you practice? Your work is stunning!
Wow, so beautiful! You’re very talented! Thank you for your transparency; your work really shows the effort you’ve made to learn.
Amazing! Practice really does make perfect. Now I just have to get to the level of your skills from 1.5 years ago!
Love the styles! Great work!
Love the Lambeth designs! Well done!!!
These are gorgeous! Piping really does take practice, as irritating as it can be when you first start.
Your work is simply gorgeous, and to think you accomplished that in just a year and a half! Congratulations! Time for a well-deserved self-pat on the back.
I love this post! These are all so beautiful, thanks for sharing!
Wowww!
I absolutely adore the gothic one! Fantastic!
These are so incredibly beautiful. Should be served at a summer ‘cottage’ for a countess, circa 1850. Art.
All of these are the best things I’ve ever seen!
The fourth picture made me jump. Dang, that’s beautiful.
Stunning!! I love seeing glow-ups! I’m curious—are you using the same type of buttercream, or have you changed to a new one? That was such a game changer for me!
These are all so delightful!
Can I ask how you practice? Do you watch YouTube tutorials or read books? Do you practice icing techniques on paper, or do you make a base every time?

Of course!
I relied heavily on YouTube tutorials and books I found at used bookstores. I picked up several books for learning the basics before moving on to vintage-style decorating. You can find so many used ones online for cheap!
I practiced piping letters on wax paper every day after work. My husband also gifted me a neat Wilton practice board kit with a clear plastic pane to overlay different tutorial patterns for piping borders. You can wipe it off and keep practicing forever! You can find it on Amazon, I think.
When I wanted to practice on a cake-like surface without making an actual cake, I decorated foam rounds or the sides of overturned stock cooking pots.
Some people make ‘zombie cakes’ where they bake and decorate a cake, then scrape all the frosting off to reuse it. I think that’s kinda gross, so I don’t do that!
I also created a digital ‘vision board’ of cakes I wanted to try, styles I liked, and techniques I wanted to learn. Seeking design inspiration is super fun and motivates me to expand my skills!
Hope this helps! Happy baking, love!
