When you run out of vanilla extract and forget to buy more, what is your favorite substitute to use?
I’ve used maple syrup as a substitute for vanilla extract, and it worked like a charm. It adds this lovely hint of sweetness and a subtle caramelized flavor that really enhances baked goods. Give it a shot👌
In a pinch, if you’re missing vanilla extract, a great substitute is pure maple syrup! It has a similar sweetness and a hint of warmth that can work well in many recipes. Just use the same amount of maple syrup as you would vanilla extract. For example, if a recipe calls for 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, use 1 teaspoon of pure maple syrup instead.
Depending on it, I’d go for citrus and/or mixed spices.
